Lucy, in her early thirties, is married and the mother of two children who are in school. She supports her family by running a business. She buys groceries from the market and sells them from morning to 6 p.m. daily. Lucy is able to make a good profit each month. She is so happy with Kiva's support and she believes her business will grow more with it. Lucy is so thankful to everyone who supports her group. Lucy has been in this business for nine years.

This will be Lucy's sixth loan request via ID-Ghana. She used the previous loans, which she repaid successfully, to buy more groceries for her business. Lucy earned profit, which she used to reinvest, build a house and to cover part of their school fees and household expenses. She will use her new loan to buy groceries to sell.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
