Maria Purificacion
Maria used her first loan from COMIXMUL and Kiva lenders to buy stolons (strawberry plants) as well as fertilizer and foliar products, which she used on her crops. She successfully planted her strawberry crops and harvested 600 boxes. She sold her product at the local market and made a great profit, which allowed her to pay off her loan obligation on time. She is grateful to all the Kiva lenders who helped her meet her goals and make her hopes a reality. They have enabled her to make her small strawberry-growing business work.

This time she is requesting the support of a new loan in order to buy more stolons, fertilizer, and foliar products, since she has already prepared the land where she will plant a new crop of strawberries. This will allow her business to keep growing and new goals to be met.

More information about this loan

These loans are designed for female farmers who produce a variety of products (onion, garlic, eggplant, spinach, mango, strawberries, etc.). Loan terms will vary depending on need, and borrowers can choose to make a "bullet" payment timed with harvest profits. Agricultural loans are considered risky in Honduras due to external forces like unpredictable weather and worldwide crop prices. As a result, many traditional financial institutions are unwilling to offer these loans. With Kiva funding, COMIXMUL will be able to reach more borrowers with agricultural loans tailored to their needs.
