Choeurn, 57 years old, is a construction worker who lives in Baray district, Kampong Thom Province. He is a hard-working farther of five children. His wife, Yal, 59, is a farmer on the cassava farmland. This couple can make a net profit approximately USD 6 a day.
During this time, Choeurn is facing with a financial issue in his family. He needs some money to buy some farming materials for his wife but yet he can’t afford it. After getting to know that HKL offers KIVA loan with the lower interest rate than its normal loan, he has decided to apply for a KIVA loan to buy fertilizers and others related farming materials for his wife to use in the cassava field. Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.
