They include a call center, a sewing shop, an Internet cafe, selling women's shoes, selling food, and selling vegetables.

The loan they are requesting will benefit small entrepreneurs in Lourdes' group. She says she joined Pro Mujer two years ago through an invitation from one of their promotion campaigns. She currently has a business selling bedspreads. She says she started this business several years ago and learned it from her mother, who runs the same kind of business.

The loan she is now requesting is to increase capital by purchasing wholesale bedspreads, which she will buy from wholesale retailers in the city of Oruro. She will then sell them in her shop. This work allows her to generate resources to support her family, since she is single and lives with her mother.

When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she says she likes the insurance offered by the organization.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
