The Credit Group El Reencuentro meets every fifteen days in the Tosagua Canton. This place is known for being very dynamic, where most of its inhabitants work in agriculture and raise animals, because it is an area of great vegetation. This group is formed by 8 women and 2 men, who decided to join some time ago and form this Credit Group, that has been very helpful, because with the loans they have been able to improve their small businesses. They work in different activities such as commerce, animal husbandry and agriculture. One of the group members is Silvia. She is 64 years old, separated and has four older children, three of whom still live with her. Silvia is a very hardworking woman who likes to earn her own money so she does not depend on anyone. She works selling clothes and Yanbal products (beauty products, cosmetics, perfumes and women's accessories). Her way of selling is door to door. She works three days a week from two to three hours per day. She leaves her products on a loan basis and is paid eight days later. She has been working for more than four years in this activity and is doing very well. What she sells most are perfumes and cosmetics because they are very good. She will use this loan to buy perfumes, creams, cosmetics and clothes. This is her first loan cycle with this Credit Group, and she likes it because the loans are fast. Her dream is to have a boutique. The small photo shows the three member, who could not be present when the group photo was taken.

Additional Information

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
