Alvina
Alvina, 24, is a single mother of one four-year-old child.

She lives with her mother, who takes care of her son while she works. She started her business four years ago and she sells natural medicines. She has a store where she displays these medicines. Her products are in high demand so she has been very successful.

She thinks that her business is a blessing, because up until now she has not had any difficulties with it. The products sell well and the store is well-known. She hopes that her business will continue to generate a good income for her.

She would like to refurbish the store because the paint on the walls is a bit worn out and is showing signs of damp. This doesn't reflect the healthy image that her sales give her.

For this reason, she is asking for a loan to refurbish her store and generate more income for the future of her young child.

More information about this loan

This loan is part of an innovative partnership between Kiva Labs and Innovations for Poverty Action to evaluate the effects of product design changes on the welfare of micro-entrepreneurs and on the viability of microfinance institutions. Through this partnership, Emprender is testing several alterations to existing products that aim to address the limitations of financial services currently available to the poor by offering lower interest rates and/or more flexible payment dates. This loan is being offered to the borrower with an innovative flexible loan schedule. Because this product is previously untested and potentially riskier for the microfinance institution, funding this loan on Kiva is particularly important to Emprender.
