The businesses that the group members carry out are varied and include cosmetics sales, food sales, a carpentry shop, fabric sales, clothing sales, and a transportation service.

The loan that they will take out will benefit the small business owners including Andrea. She said that a year ago she joined Pro Mujer, at the invitation of a staff person who went to visit her in her home. Currently she has a business knitting sweaters. She says that she began this business a number of years ago, learning it from her mother, and it is because of this that with some capital she had saved, she decided to open an independent business.

The loan that she is taking out now is to increase her capital (to purchase wool in bulk) that she will get from the wholesale merchants in El Alto and later, after making them, will put them in her retail space. This sort of work permits her to generate resources to help support her family since she is married and has two children.

When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she says that she likes the training programs and the health area that the institution offers.

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
