The group CORAZON DE MANZANA will start its third cycle with Pro Mujer as part of the Centro Focal de Santiago II. The group is comprised of nine members and it is run by a board for which Lourdes is the President. The businesses that the members in the association run are varied. They include: hot dog & french fries sales, clothing sales, quilt sales, tailor, crafts, and painting sales.

The loan will benefit the small micro-businesses where Lourdes is a member. She says that a year ago Pro Mujer was integrated into the group due to an invitation from a colleague that is a client of the institution. Now she has a business selling hot dogs and french fries. She actually began this business many years ago but was able to increase her sales by selling in the market.

This loan is so that she can buy potatoes in bulk and to eventually improve her retail space. This work enables her to generate income so that she can support her family, since she is a single mother with three children.

When we asked what she liked about Pro Mujer, she responded that she likes the training offered.

In the picture we notice the absence of one of the members, as she was at the doctor's office at the time of the photo and couldn't participate.

Additional Information

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
