David
David is a farmer aged 43 who works in coffee farming. He is married with 6 children aged 21, 18, 16, 15, 11 and 9 years old, and only 3 attend school.

He has applied for a loan of UGX 2,500,000 (two million, five hundred thousand shillings) to buy coffee seeds for his coffee farming. He started his business in 2011 from a rural area in Katenga, Ruhinda, Mitooma, in order to have an income to sustain him and his family. He is a hardworking man and works 8 hours a day and 6 days a week. His clients are coffee traders. He is faced with the challenge of competition among other farmers but works hard to beat the competition. He hopes the hard work and the loans will start to pay off soon.

He thanks the Kiva lenders for the tremendous work they are doing.

More information about this loan

This loan is part of UGAFODE's program for clients who live in isolated rural areas with limited access to financial services. Uniquely, UGAFODE focuses its efforts on agricultural areas in Uganda that are over 50 km from their branches, providing loans to both groups and individual borrowers. The organization believes that the risk of offering services to remote clients is outweighed by the benefits to customers and their often underserved communities.
