Al Taawoun Group
In this Group: Hiyam , Rola, Nadira
Nadira is the featured representative of the Al Taawoun group. She and the other group members are best friends, who came together to apply for a loan from Kiva’s field partner Al Majmoua. Nadira is a 45-year-old married mother of five whose husband works in construction. She is Palestinian, and since refugees are limited to certain work in sectors, she has faced many difficulties in life. She quit school at the intermediate level, which further limits her working opportunities. Despite these obstacles, two years ago Nadira started renting out apartments to help cover the costs of sending her children to a private school. Nadira is a devoted mother who acquired her second loan from Kiva’s field partner Al Majmoua in order to cover her daughter's wedding preparation fees. She hopes her financial situation will improve so that she can continue to provide her children with a better education. Nadira is the lovely woman wearing a blue veil, while Hiyam is on the left and her daughter, the bride—Rola, is in the middle of the photo.

The strong financial position achieved to date has allowed Al Majmoua to steadily lower its pricing over the years.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
