Joel is from Upper Talaban, Sergio Osmena, Zamboanga del Norte. He is 41 years of age. He and his partner have three school-age kids. This year, 2014, he joined Paglaum MPC and he appreciates the programs and services of the co-op. From his desire to help the family, he engaged in selling fish in different barangays in the municipality of Sergio Osmena, Zamboanga del Norte. His motorcycle is his only source of transportation to reach the different barangays and sell fish. His source of income has existed for two years now. In need of additional working capital, he has requested financial assistance from Paglaum MPC for an amount of PHP 5,000 to purchase more stocks of fish. Through this, he hopes to increase his income to provide for the daily needs of his family. He is also happy he can support the education of his children, which the main priority of his hardship.
About Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative
Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative (PMPC) was founded in 1992 by the beneficiaries, parents and staff of the Paglaum Community Development Foundation to address economic and livelihood activities for sustainability. The organization operates in the northwestern provinces of Mindanao and Visayas.
In the local vernacular, “paglaum” means “hope.” The initial foundation is dedicated to child development through a holistic approach. The goal is to build self-reliance and expand opportunity so the poorest of the poor can help themselves.
