Mr. Khamee is 58 years old and has a wife and seven children that range in age from 32 to 16 years old. Mr. Khamee works very hard to provide for his family – he is a sticky rice farmer and raises some livestock in addition to selling water filters.
Mr. Khamee’s village uses spring water but the water is unsuitable to drink. The nearby villages use surface water like shallow wells but, like his own village, the water in these places is contaminated with bacteria and other water spread disease. Most families report a threefold reduction in diarrhea after they begin using the filter that is because the filter removes bacteria and other water borne diseases.
Mr. Khamee is expecting to sell approximately 20 filters each month; providing clean water to an average of 100 people per month. He will make a small commission from the sale of each water filter; the commission helps him send his children to school and provide for his family’s needs. Mr. Khamee is encouraged by how the filter helps provide clean water, assist villagers improve their overall health, and how it helps provide additional income for his wife and family.
