Jayanti is a young housewife who is only 30 years old, with two children (one son and one daughter). She is married to Suresh, age 34. They live in the small village of Khagrabari in Jalpaiguri district in their own house. Jayanti is uneducated and can sign her name only. She got married at a very tender age. Her husband studied until grade seven. One of their children is going to school and is in grade 2 and the other is too young for school.

Jayanti's husband has been running a business of renting decorative musical instruments such as sound systems, sound boxes, microphones, drums, and other items for any occasion like a marriage ceremony, political meetings, religious festivals, birthday parties etc. He has worked in this business for many years and thanks to God and his dedication, he has managed to keep it going and meet the household expenses.

Lately his clientele has increased and every day the demand is greater. His dream is to see his business flourish and he knows that for this reason, he has to invest a little more in purchasing more musical items, so that he can meet the demand. That is why Jayanti has made the decision to help her husband by taking a loan from BJS (Kiva's partner). She planned to purchase more sound boxes, sound systems, dishes, and drums with the loan to attract more clients so she can achieve her goal of improving the quality of life of her family. In the future, she wants to purchase an auto- rickshaw with the additional profit earned.

She is thankful to BJS and Kiva.

More information about this loan

This loan targets women in the financially underserved parts of India. With a largely rural population, the Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar districts in the state of West Bengal are severely lacking in infrastructure and are three of the poorest districts in Eastern India.  This loan enables female entrepreneurs to maintain their current businesses in an area that is under-developed and poorly served by financial institutions
