The Communal bank "Aroma" will start its second cycle in Pro Mujer, as part of the regional office in Patacamaya. It is made up of eight members and is run by a board of directors of which Rebeca is the secretary. The different business activities that the members of the group do are: running a local grocery store, running a cake shop, selling cleaning materials, agricultural work, selling general goods, selling potatoes, selling beer and selling fruit.

This loan will benefit the small businesses such as the one Rebeca has. It is the first time that she has been a member of the Pro Mujer group, joining when a representative of the group visited her house to promote the organization.

She has a business producing fruit. She started this business on her own initiative because when she was young, she helped her family out and learnt about this trade.

She is asking for a loan to buy seeds wholesale from the traders in the El Alto area. She will grow and then sell her produce on the market. This way of working allows her to generate an income to support her family. She is married and has one child.

When she is asked what she likes most about 'Pro Mujer', she tells us that it is the training that the organization offers.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
