Sadiye
Sadiye is married and is the mother of three daughters between the ages of 30 and 36. As a housewife, Sadiye goes to her daughter's café every day in order to help her, and does errands and other small tasks to help her out. But this year she wants to work for herself and so she has rented a stall along the waterfront from the municipality. At this stall she is going to sell small electronic gift items, and she is also thinking of selling beaded jewelry. With the loan she gets from Maya, Sadiye is going to pay the rent for her stall and purchase merchandise. She is very happy that she’s going to have her own business at her stand. “For years, I have always helped out my children and remained on my feet, but it hasn’t been visible. I’m happy that now I’m going to have my own business and earn my own money,” she said. In starting her business, she wants to make good use of her time and to generate income. But her main goal is to succeed in her work.

Maya works to extend access to finance in Turkey, a country which, as a whole, has very limited microfinance services. By supporting this loan, you are helping Maya continue their work and specifically reach female borrowers in Turkey, many of whom come from rural parts of the country.

About Maya

Although Turkey is one of the largest economies in the region, it has not reached its potential for microfinance investment. Deficient legal structures for microfinance credit initiatives and lack of quality information about microfinance demand and structure in Turkey are the largest obstacles to improvements in the field. Under these challenging conditions, Maya provides group and individual loans to low-income women who lack access to the financial services they need in order to start or improve their own small-scale businesses. Maya, established in 2002, was Turkey’s first microcredit program. Maya is Kiva’s first Field Partner in Turkey and posted its first loans in August 2011. Headquartered in Istanbul, Maya has four branch offices. For more information, visit Maya’s partner page.
