Oscar Eduardo
Oscar is 34 years old. He studied up to the eighth form only, because his parents had no means to keep sending him to school, which is why he became a farmer and a merchant. He married a few months ago, and his wife is a domestic worker. Oscar trades in cattle. At first, he partenered up with a friend, but he has been working alone for four years now, where before he was simply a helper. Three months ago, he sold all the cows he had, all his investment, in order to have ready cash for his wedding and to build a small house. He works as a farmer and a bricklayer. He needs to cover great distances to go to buy cattle. His hours vary, but he usually works from 7 am to 6 pm. He asks Credicampo for a loan so as to buy 2 heifers, which he will keep in a pasture for 3 to 6 months and then resell in order to buy others. He is grateful for the opportunity this loan represents. His dream is to have a small animal farm of his own and to make a better life for the children he will soon have. He wants to create jobs for at least one person, in order to mirror the chance he was once given. He will use the profits to buy more cattle.

More information about this loan

This loan is part of a CrediCampo project to help rural farmers living in extreme poverty plant basic grains to feed their families. Excess product is sold on the local market. These loans are smaller than the typical loans offered by this field partner, and guarantee requirements are also reduced. Individuals who receive this type of loan also get access to technical assistance, information on good environmental practices and increased access to farm inputs like fertilizer. This is considered a high risk loan due to the population and loan purpose, and CrediCampo is one of the very few institutions in El Salvador willing to working with these farmers.
