The Kankele Group is based in the Darsalam 1 district of the town of Koutiala. It is made up of women who know one another well and live in large, traditional families with their husbands, children and other relatives. They are, on average, 43 years old and have five children. They sell various products such as clothing, food, fruit and vegetables, etc.

In order to expand their businesses the women decided to work with the field partner, Soro Yiriwaso. This will be their twelfth group loan.

Sétou (standing third from the left in the photo) is a member of the Kankele Group, and sells fruit and vegetables. She plans to use her loan to buy fruit and vegetables (mangoes, bananas, oranges, lemons, etc) from the main market. She will then retail her produce for cash to various customers.

The other members of the group expect to make an average profit of 115,000 francs CFA each, over the loan period, but Sétou expects to make 130,000 francs CFA. She intends to use her profit to repay her loan, provide for her personal expenses and increase her working capital.

The women would like to continue to strengthen their partnership with Soro Yiriwaso in order to ensure that they maintain their stock levels.

The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
