Cristina Leaner
Doña Cristina is a handler in a veterinary clinic, her husband is a driver, and they have a 5-year-old son under their care. They have both gotten ahead in life with their own effort. By saving a little of their salary each month, they have begun to erect the walls of their home, though they still lack plaster, the floor, and other improvements.

Her greatest concern is that her son will get sick from the grit that comes out of the walls and the unsanitary condition of the floor since she does not currently have the resources to continue the investment. Faced with this need, Cristina has asked for a loan to buy cement, sand, and gravel; and to pay for the labor to tile her house and plaster the walls. This way she can enjoy the environment and improve the condition of her home.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
