The ten members of the Benkadi 2 Group are married women with an average age of 42 and an average of three children each. The majority of them live within traditional family frameworks in Fatia, a village in Sikasso Cercle, the third administrative region of Mali. They are collaborating with the Soro Yiriwaso microfinance institution so that they can see through their agricultural activities during the winter period. This is their seventh loan with Soro Yiriwaso, with whom their previous loans were paid back in full. The group's main produce is millet. The group's representative is Adiara, the woman standing in the centre of the back row in the photo taken of the entire Benkadi 2 Group. With this loan, she is planning on buying two 50-kg sacks of fertiliser and two cans of herbicide, as well as paying for the labour costs to maintain three-quarters of a hectare of land. After the harvest, the produce is sold on a village level as well as in Sikasso to a customer base made up of both men and woman, accepting both credit and cash as payment. She is planning on making an average profit of 100,000 FCFA per season. These profits will allow her to pay off part of the loan and its interest and to also help her husband with their family's daily living expenses.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
