Tam, 51, is a breadwinner in the family consisting of seven children. She lives in Battambang province as a local farmer and a vegetable grower. Besides this agribusiness, she uses her free time to work for others for a fee. This business earns her about 35,000 KHR per day.
With Kiva’s partner, VisionFund, Tam has been in 13 loan cycles with a successful repayment of her past loans which improved her lifestyle in a gradual pace. Now she is seeking for a new loan of 1,500,000 KHR in order to buy a cow and to buy seed to support her farming business. She hopes that she can earn more income.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
