Rotha is a 40-year-old resident of Cheung Prey district, located in the Kampong Cham province. She is a mother of two children; one child is dependent on her.
Rotha struggles to earn a living for her family by rice farming; it is the business that she has had for 22 years. In order to earn extra income for her family, Rotha also works as a factory worker. On average, her family can make about $5 per day, which is barely enough to pay daily expanses.
This is the first cycle for her with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner).
She will spend her entire loan portion to buy fertilizer, seeds, and cows in order to continue her farming business.
She optimistically believes that the loan will enable her to earn a higher income and help her to uplift the living condition of her family.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
