Sophia is married and has one child who attends school. She owns a house that has neither electricity nor piped water. Her greatest monthly expenses are food, school fees and clothing.
For the past four years, she has operated an open air food business, selling to her neighbors and students in a neighboring school. In addition she also does farming business which is her other source of livelihood. She faces a major challenge of seasonality especially during the rainy season when it becomes difficult to operate.
With the loan that she is requesting she wants to buy wheat flour, cooking oil, salt and sugar for her food preparation business. She decided to join Yehu to access loans to boost her business.
About Yehu Microfinance Trust
This loan is administered by Yehu Microfinance Trust, which was founded in 1998 as a project of CHOICE Humanitarian Kenya. In July 2007, Yehu became a separate entity from CHOICE and was registered as a trust. Since then, Yehu has expanded to cover over half of Kenya’s 13 coastal districts.
