El Jicaral is a small town where there are entrepreneurial people with a desire to improve their lives. This is where María Mercedes lives.

María Mercedes is 48 years old, married and with a young son in her care. The little she earns barely helps to look after her little son, who she loves and values so much. She has been working at the Minsa maize flour factory in El Jicaral for 16 years, where she is employed in the warehouse. Today, it is her desire to have better conditions for her family.

She is pleased to be employed, but her salary does not allow her to be able to have better conditions for her family. This is why she made the decision to ask Kiva and Ceprodel for a small loan to buy a refrigerator and 14'' TV . With this, it will help to improve her family's conditions.

She hopes in God to receive this privilege for the first time, these small loans which will help her a lot.

This loan is administered by Centro de Promocion del Desarrollo Local (CEPRODEL), one of Kiva’s larger partners in Central America. Founded in 1991 and based in Managua, Nicaragua, CEPRODEL specializes in the development and funding of housing cooperatives for traditionally marginalized communities, the provision of microfinance services to small businesses, and the promotion of innovative renewable energy projects. In addition, unlike many microfinance institutions in the area that have chosen to avoid the rural areas of the country due to the increased financial risk, CEPRODEL provides financial services to numerous clients in the agriculture and livestock industry. Supporting a borrower through CEPRODEL means contributing to the promotion and sustainability of this important work in Nicaragua.
