Maria Idelisa
María is a woman of African descent who had to leave her homeland for security reasons and set out for a new world in the city with her family. But that's not everything; María is a real example of self-improvement, since despite going through the forced displacement she is separated and has had to bring up her three children on her own. She does this by selling clothing and products from catalogues, as well as selling fast food. She learnt these activities from scratch because of the need to provide food for her children.

María is very grateful to God for the opportunity she has been given in life since things are better better now than they were in her home country, although she misses it a lot. She sees a lot of evidence that the only thing stopping people from making progress is laziness.

She is asking for a loan to buy an assortment of clothing and products on offer, hoping to improve her finances by covering events on special dates which are celebrated in Colombia.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
