Benkadi Group

The Benkadi Group is made up of married women with an average age of 36 and three children each. They all live within the frameworks of traditional families in the village of Konobougou, in the commune of Konobougou, Baroueli Prefecture, Ségou Region (the fourth administrative area of the Republic of Mali). They all know each other through the bonds of family, community and friendship. They work in the restaurant business and in the commerce of condiments, smoked fish, wood, shoes and plastic bags.

This will be the eighth loan for the women of the Benkadi Group. In order to satisfy the enormous demand from their customers, they have turned to Soro Yiriwaso. The requested loan amount will go towards the aforementioned merchandise.

Ina, the woman standing second from the left in the photo, is illiterate. She currently sells plastic shoes. She plans on buying 120 pairs of shoes from the wholesalers in Bamako. She sells her stock for cash out of her own home and at market to a mixed customer base. She plans on making a monthly profit of 80,000 FCFA, which will be reinvested into her business.

Le groupe BENKADI est composé de femmes mariées, elles ont en moyenne 36 ans et 3 enfants. Elles vivent toutes dans des familles traditionnelles dans la ville de Konobougou, commune Konobougou, préfecture de Baroueli, Région de Ségou (quatrième région administrative de la République du Mali).
Elles se sont connues à travers des liens de parenté, de voisinage et d’amitié. Elles font la restauration, le commerce de condiments, de poisson fumé, de bois, de chaussure et de sachet plastique. Les femmes du groupe BENKADI sont à leur huitième prêt solidaire.
Dans le but de satisfaire la demande énorme de leurs clientèles, elles font recours à SORO YIRIWASO.
Ces montants seront utilisés pour acheter leurs marchandises déjà citées.
La cliente INA , deuxième personne à partir de la gauche est analphabète, elle est actuellement vendeuse de chaussure en plastique. Elle compte acheter 120 paires de chaussures pour femme chez les grossistes à Bamako. La vente se fait en détail et en espèce chez elle et au marché à une clientèle mixte. Elle compte réaliser un bénéfice mensuel de 80 000Fcfa, qui sera réinvesti dans son activité.

Soro Yiriwaso is a microfinance institution that works primarily in rural and semi-urban areas of Mali to provide underprivileged communities with access to financial services.The organization facilitates access for disadvantaged clients, particularly women, to new resources and services, fostering solidarity and cooperation among its clients. Kiva lenders’ funds will enable Soro Yiriwaso to expand its outreach and target even more underserved Malians involved in business and agriculture.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
