Originally from a rural village in the Ro Veang district of Preah Vihea province, Mao, 44 years old, is married and has one son who is in school. In order to support the family, Mao and her husband have farmed rice for 21 years, earning their family about 20,000 KHR per day.
Mao has been with VisionFund for six cycles. She successfully used the previous loans to better support her family and increase her family’s business. Mao is now applying for another loan to buy fertilizer for her farmland. She hopes to grow her rice successfully and increase her business to better her family’s living conditions and keep her child in school.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
