Sokum is living in Phnom Srouch district located in Kompong Speu province. She is 28 years old and married. She has four children, age 7, 5, 3 and 1 year old, living with her. The primary income for the whole family comes from farming. In total, Sokum’s family makes an average monthly income of only 322,000 KHR.
This is the forth microloan for Sokum with Kiva’s partner, VisionFund. She has successfully repaid the past loan and it was a very generous blessing for her children that allowed them to have enough food and to go to school. Now, she is seeking another loan of 2,000,000 KHR to buy fertilizer for crops. She optimistically believes that the loan will help her to generate more income in order to have enough support for her four children.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
