Originally from a rural village of the Prasat Balang district of Kampong Thom province, Nornn is 31 years old and married with two children who are dependent, but they are all too young for school. She and her husband earn a living through farming rice, which they have been doing for eight years, and sometimes, they also work as paid workers to add more income. These current businesses earn their family about 18,000 KHR (Cambodian riels) per day.
Nornn has been with VisionFund for two loan cycles. She successfully used the previous loan to better support her family and increase her family’s business. Now she is applying for another loan. She wants to use her loan to buy fertilizer for her farmland. She hopes to grow her rice successfully and increase her current business to better her family’s living conditions.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
