Living in a wooden house located in the Borey Cholsa district of Takeo province, Lieng is aged 51 years. She is widow with one child who is too young for school. In order to support the family, she has earned a living through farming rice for 27 years and selling some groceries for 14 years. With these current businesses, she can earn 50,000 KHR (Cambodian riels) per day.
This is the first micro loan for Lieng with VisionFund. Now she is applying for a loan. She wants to use her loan to buy fertilizer for her farmland and buy more groceries for selling. With these loans, she hopes to grow her rice successfully and increase her current business to better her family’s living conditions and send her child to school.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
