Parveen's Group
In this Group: Parveen, Salma
Parveen is a 35-year-old, married woman. She has been doing embroidery by machine, at home, for the past five years, to support her family. In fact her husband is also doing the same work at home, but he earns an insufficient income to support their family. So she helps her husband in his tasks related to the embroidery. Also she sells embroidered dresses in her town. By this time, she has attained a regular list of customers and makes enough to contribute to the family income. She has become expert in embroidery by machine. She wants more raw materials for embroidery, so that she could easily cope with the increasing demand for her art.

She is a mother of two sons and four daughters. She hopes to get a boost in her earnings through her large sales. She wishes to use a portion of her revenue to provide a quality education for her children. Parveen thanks Kiva and the field partner, BRAC Pakistan.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
