The communal bank "Amor de Dios" is starting its 2nd loan cycle with Pro Mujer in the Collpani central office. This group has 9 members, and is led by a board of directors where Teodora is the president. The members of this communal bank have a variety of businesses, including: coca leaf sales, blanket-weaving, broom sales, a dental office, sales of Christian religious items, and cosmetic sales.

This loan will benefit all of the small businesswomen in Teodora's group. She states that she joined Pro Mujer 2 years ago at the invitation of a loan officer who went to visit her at her house. Now she has a business weaving blankets. She got to know this business because a friend taught it to her a number of years ago. She was able to learn the technique of weaving, and later she decided to start up a business with this new skill.

Teodora will use this loan to increase her capital (to buy wool at wholesale). She will buy from the traders in the city of La Paz, and later she will make the blankets and sell them from her retail space. By working this way, she can generate resources to support her family. She is married and has 8 children.

When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she answered that she likes the savings accounts offered by the institution and her group.

Note: one of the members of this group does not appear in the photo because they had a doctor's appointment.

The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
