With a smile that lights up a room, you would never be able to guess that Tuba recently successfully overcame a life-threatening disease. Throughout her entire ordeal, she never stopped teaching her nursing students and was a constant source of inspiration for them. This “beautiful journey,” as Tuba calls it, now continues as she strives to spread her passion for medicine by starting the San Diego Medical College.
After moving to the US from Turkey when she was 20 years old, Tuba quickly began her quest into the medical field. She received her degree in child psychology and development and has always loved working with children. With her vast medical knowledge and natural people skills, Tuba worked as a medical assistant and was a CPR instructor who taught for the American Heart Association. Most recently, she was the director of a nursing school in Chula Vista, CA.
Many of the students she hopes to teach work full-time jobs and have irregular hours. Tuba plans to offer classes catered for the busy working professional focused on CPR, first aid, basic health care, advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) and airway management.
She will use this $4,000 Kiva loan to secure the lease for the location of the college, and provide a top-notch facility for students interested in entering the medical field.
As a mother of four, Tuba has stayed strong for her children and wants to set an example for them and for her future students, teaching them to be warriors with great patience who never give up. Through starting San Diego Medical College, Tuba hopes to fulfill her desire to positively impact others and to continue to be a living example of hope and perseverance.
