The “LAS RETAMAS DE EXALTACIÓN” communal bank will begin its first cycle with Pro Mujer as part of the Villa Exaltacion center. It’s made up of eight members and directed by a board of directors where Kataya serves as the president. The members’ businesses include pots and pan sales, salteñas sales (traditional Bolivian empanadas), CD sales, crafts, food sales, hardware store, and cake sales.

This loan will benefit their small businesses including Katya’s. She is just starting with Pro Mujer, having joined on the invitation of a promoter who visited her at home. She sells pastries and says that she started the business when she was a young girl. She later decided to sell her pastries to cake shops and then set up an independent business with the capital.

She is asking for a loan to buy flour in quantity from the wholesale vendors in El Alto and use it in her work area. This type of work will allow her to generate more income to support her family since she is single and has a son.

When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer she says that she likes the services offered.

Esta forma de trabajo le permite generar recursos para mantener a su familia ya que ella es soltera y tiene un hijo.
