Pheng C. is 56 years old and a fisherman who has been fishing in Tonlesap Lake since 1985. He is married to Mrs. Van Voeurn whom is a farmer growing rice. He has four children, one of whom is married and the others stay at home. Normally, Pheng always buys rice to stock for a while and resells it at when prices are high. He needs a loan of US$1,000 to purchase rice to stock for resell in a high price period. The loans allow him to increase his family's income. Pheng's wife is pictured because he was not available at the time.
Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.
