Sobia's Group
In this Group: Sobia, Nazia
Sobia is a 23-year-old married woman living with her spouse and three children in the area of Lahore, Pakistan. Her husband is a milkman by profession; he sells milk at his shop in the community and earns a reasonable income for his family. He has been purchasing milk from the market and selling it as a retailer from his shop. Nowadays, customers are complaining about the freshness of the milk. He wants to buy fresh milk from a wholesaler, but their price is higher than the market prices. He does not have enough cash in hand to buy fresh milk, but he also does not want to compromise on the quality of the milk he sells.

Therefore, Sobia has requested a loan from Kiva’s field partner BRAC Pakistan so her husband can purchase fresh milk from the field to sell. She hopes that she will be able to save some of the profits from the loan. She thanks Kiva and field partner BRAC Pakistan.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
