Makongu, who is in his late 40s, is married with nine children--five boys and four girls--who are still in school. He has been running two projects, a food cafe and a small retail shop, for the past 15 years. He opens at 6 a.m. and closes at 3 p.m. daily, and he is able to make a good monthly profit.
This will be Makongu's first loan from Tujijenge Tanzania. He will use this loan to increase his shop inventory. He dreams of expanding his shop and having broiler chicken.
Makongu will share this loan with his loan group Nyabange, which has eleven members who will hold each other accountable for paying back the loan.
