Daniel Salvador
Daniel is a humble fast-food seller. He makes pizza, something he learned when working as a kitchen helper. Now Daniel prepares pizzas and sells them from his home. The idea to start a small business came from Daniel's need to earn a higher income. His wage working as a helper was not enough and his family needed certain things. With his savings, Daniel was able to buy an oven that allowed him to prepare a very small number of pizzas but, with their sales, he is able to cover basic household costs. This was his most urgent goal and worry.

As time passed, Daniel's financial situation improved and he has the opportunity to expand his business. Daniel tells us that his little business gives him the opportunity to aspire and dream of bigger things. For example he wants to build big premises where he can sells his pizzas to all the city. Daniel knows, however, that this dream is something that must be achieved little by little and so he is applying for a loan in order to buy basic supplies - such as dough, pepperoni, sausages, pineapple and more - for making pizzas. Daniel hopes that this loan will result in an increase in his income, and that he will be able to save a little in order to sell his pizzas from business premises. Daniel is always looking to improve the lives of his two much loved children, for whom he would give his life.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
