Maria Teresa
Doña Maria Teresa is a courageous woman with strong desires of self improvement. She is the mother of two children who are studying, one in secondary and the other in primary, both depending on her and their father in every aspect. Her parents being of few resources could not give her the opportunity to finish her education in primary school, only finishing her first two years.

Doña Maria Teresa counts on her own house for which she is saved the cost of paying rent. Her economic activity is the dispersal and cultivation of coffee, as for vocation and family tradition they have dedicated themselves to this sector for many years. Her customers are the different agents, neighbors, family members, friends that inhabit the community. Her only challenges are the lowering of coffee prices at the moment of their purchase, plagues and the distance to her crops, approximately 3.5 kilometers from her house, which is crossed walking and occasionally using a car or animal.

Doña Maria Teresa is requesting financial support in order to purchase: urea, 12-24-12 fertilizer, 18-46-0 fertilizer, nitrate, bayfolan and gramaxone as with this she will be able to tend to 4 manzanas of coffee and satisfy her need to adequately tend to her property. She dreams of improving her coffee crops in order to be able to have a better income than that of the last few years, and a long term future to allow her daughters to study so that they can defend themselves or face life in a different way and they do not remain like her, as she did not have the opportunity to study.

More information about this loan

These loans are designed for female farmers who produce a variety of products (onion, garlic, eggplant, spinach, mango, strawberries, etc.). Loan terms will vary depending on need, and borrowers can choose to make a "bullet" payment timed with harvest profits. Agricultural loans are considered risky in Honduras due to external forces like unpredictable weather and worldwide crop prices. As a result, many traditional financial institutions are unwilling to offer these loans. With Kiva funding, COMIXMUL will be able to reach more borrowers with agricultural loans tailored to their needs.
