The group is made up of eight members and is led by a board of directors of which Aydee is the president. The businesses that the communal bank members work in are varied. Among them are party gift sales, stage building, food sales, weaving sweaters, selling chicken, a stationery shop, candy sales, and driving services.

The loan they are taking out will benefit the small businesses of which Aydee is a member. She mentions that she has been a part of Pro Mujer for two years and was invited by a friend who is a member of the institution. Currently she has a business in seasonal product sales. She says that she learned this business because she used to watch the way her friends sold these products. With a little capital that she acquired from Pro Mujer, she started an independent business.

The loan that they are taking out now will be used to increase capital (buy umbrellas wholesale) that she will acquire from wholesale distributors in the city of El Alto. She will then sell the items upon request. This type of work allows her to make an income to support her family as she is single and has three children.

When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she responds that she likes the health services that the institution offers.

Additional Information

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
