Marilou is a 43-year-old married woman from Matco Panalsalan Plaridel Mis.Occ, who has one child. She has been a member of the Paglaum-MPC for almost seven years. Marilou owns and manages a small barbeque stand in front of her house, which is on a national road that many people pass through looking for places to eat. Due to the improvements to their barrios, many people travel in and out of the vicinity, so she has decided to expand her business to cook more dishes in order to draw more people to visit her eatery. To fund this project, she needs additional capital of PHP 50,000 to buy additional kilos of meat for her barbeque business. For this reason, she has requested a loan from Paglaum-MPC.
About Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative
Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative (PMPC) was founded in 1992 by the beneficiaries, parents and staff of the Paglaum Community Development Foundation to address economic and livelihood activities for sustainability. The organization operates in the northwestern provinces of Mindanao and Visayas.
In the local vernacular, “paglaum” means “hope.” The initial foundation is dedicated to child development through a holistic approach. The goal is to build self-reliance and expand opportunity so the poorest of the poor can help themselves.
