Mariama's Group
In this Group: Mariama , Ablawa, Aïssogbé Germaine
This group is made up of three friends who all live in the same neighbourhood. The group representative is Mariama (seen in the photo with her hand raised). She is 46 years old and did not attend school. She is married to an electrician called Sébastin and they have five children, some of whom currently attend school. They are still responsible for three of their children. Mariama lives with her husband and their children and between them they provide for the expenses of their household.

Mariama has been selling eggs for 20 years now. She sells them from her home and also delivers them. She buys her supplies at a market in Benin.

In order to satisfy the demands of their customers, the members of the group work with the field partner, Alidé. This will be their second loan, the previous loan was fully and correctly repaid.

Ce groupe est composé de trois personnes, qui sont des amies et résident dans le même quartier. La représentante du groupe Mariama (celle dont la main est levée sur la photo) âgée de 46 ans n’a pas fréquenté l’école. Mariama est mariée à un électricien auto nommé Sébastin. Le couple a cinq enfants, dont certains scolarisés et trois à leur charge. Mariama vit avec son mari et ses enfants. Le couple assure ensemble les différentes charges de la maison. Pour ce faire, Mariama vend des œufs par la technique de livraison et son à son domicile depuis vingt ans environ. Mariama s’approvisionne dans un marché du Bénin. Dans la quête de la satisfaction de sa clientèle, Mariama ensemble avec les membres de son groupe sollicite pour la deuxième fois un crédit auprès de ALIDé. Le prêt antérieur a été bien remboursé.

Alidé is a Beninese NGO that works to reduce poverty by offering sustainable access to productive loans like this one in addition to savings, training sessions, and social work to low-income families.

Supporters of this loan should be aware that there is some risk of being repaid late. Because the Beninois Ministry of Finance has imposed restrictions on the amount of money Alidé can send to Kiva, the organization can only send monthly repayments in installments smaller than $13,000. This means that some Kiva lenders may receive their repayments late. However, Alidé remains a healthy institution in good standing with its creditors, and Kiva would like to continue working to support its clients. This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee.
