Qafar Q. is a 45 year old man who keeps his own business selling a variety of goods such as soap, powder, shampoo, and pens. He is married and 2 sons of school age. He started his business in 1996 when his salary as accountant was just enough to barely make ends meet. Qafar decided to start his own business and now his store is the main source of income for his family. Qafar also helps his very old parents financially. He applies for a 1200 USD loan to buy more inventory for his store and generate more income.
Aqroinvest Credit Union was founded by a group of 32 Imishli farmers in 2001, and has grown to become one of the largest credit unions in Azerbaijan. It boasts a portfolio of nearly $5 million and is wholly owned by its more than 3,500 borrowers, as of December 2011.
