Ana Elvia
Ana is a business woman who's business is located in a residential area. For the great love and preoccupation she has for her children she decided to move to be close to them. She sells merchandise like hair conditioner, shampoo, deodorants, clothing, etc. She sells to friends and people in her neighborhood. She has come to realize that her volume of sales is low. This is the principal challenge and threat for her business.

Her store is the only way Ana has of supporting herself as nobody is giving her anything. She is a single mother and although her children are adults, they have their own responsibilities and the money they sometimes give her is not enough to cover her needs. So for this reason Ana every day opens her store with the hopes that her sales improve.

Ana is requesting a loan to buy merchandise wholesale to restock her store and make it more attractive. Also so customers can find a greater variety of products. She hopes to increase the money flowing into her purse and be successful enough to be able to hire people who like her are denied work due to age and health.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
