Juralyn is 35 years old and lives in Palilan, Jimenez, Misamis Occidental. She is a widow and a part-time tutor with one school-aged child.
Juralyn is engaged in fishing, in particular operating a fishing boat and “payaw” for their means of living. She is also receiving a monthly pension as the surviving spouse of her late husband. Juralyn earns approximately PHP 10,000 each month doing this type of business activity. She has requested a loan to be used to purchase additional fishing equipment.
Juralyn has been a member of PMPC for almost eight years. In the future, she hopes to expand her business.
About Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative
Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative (PMPC) was founded in 1992 by the beneficiaries, parents and staff of the Paglaum Community Development Foundation to address economic and livelihood activities for sustainability. The organization operates in the northwestern provinces of Mindanao and Visayas.
In the local vernacular, “paglaum” means “hope.” The initial foundation is dedicated to child development through a holistic approach. The goal is to build self-reliance and expand opportunity so the poorest of the poor can help themselves.
