The businesses run by the members include blanket making, jacket sales, artisan crafts, transportation services, general stores, and clothing sales.

The loan that they will receive will benefit microbusinesses like Ingrid's. This is her first year with Pro Mujer. She joined after a friend, who is a member of the institution, invited her. She currently has a business selling sheets and bed covers. She began this business through a cousin, who showed her how to acquire and sell these products.

The loan that she has requested is to increase her working capital so that she can purchase sheets and bed covers in bulk. She will purchase the products at near the Bolivian-Chilean border and later sell them in her store.

This job allows her to generate income to support her family, since she is single and has one child. When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she responded that she likes the other members of the group because they are kind.

Additional Information

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
