Beytulla Q. is 53 years old, married, and has three children of school age. Beytulla’s wife is unemployed - she takes care of the household and the children. Aside from his wife and kids, Beytulla is also supporting his parents and sister. He earns income running his own business - a store where he sells perfume for women and men, deodorants, air fresheners, shaving cream, shampoo, washing powder, and other items. Beytulla is an accountant by profession, and this education has helped him run his business properly. At present, Beytulla needs a loan of US$1,200 that he will use to expand his business.
Aqroinvest Credit Union was founded by a group of 32 Imishli farmers in 2001, and has grown to become one of the largest credit unions in Azerbaijan. It boasts a portfolio of nearly $5 million and is wholly owned by its more than 3,500 borrowers, as of December 2011.
