Santos Sixto
Santos is 39 years old and only studied up to Grade 2 in the local school. He is single, has no children and lives with his parents and 3 siblings. No one is dependent on him. He grows basic grains like corn and beans. He has been a farmer for 25 years. His parents taught him to do this when he was young as he had no other productive activity. Today he is thankful to his parents as he does this work for himself. He has no other work than in agriculture. He has always worked as day labor. The place where he works is 25 minutes from his house and he gets there by walking. He works with his brothers to get the maximum quantity of plants and make their work more profitable.

Santos needs a loan to buy fertilizer for his crops as it is cheaper now. He will also buy machetes, pay the rent on the land he farms and pay for labor to prepare the land. His dreams are to re-forest a water source that his mother owns, buy a cow to provide for the household needs and he also hopes to clear part of the land that he has to plant vegetables.

Santos tiene 39 años de edad, estudió solo segundo grado en la escuela del cantón, está soltero por el momento y no tiene hijos, con él viven sus padres y sus tres hermanos, nadie mas depende de él .

Él se dedica a la siembra de granos básicos como frijol maíz, maicillo, tiene alrededor de 25 años de ser agricultor, aprendió este oficio porque desde pequeño lo llevaban sus padres porque no tenían otra actividad productiva, ahora agradece a su padres que le enseñaron y hoy lo hace por sí solo, él no tiene otra actividad productiva más que la agricultura, siempre ha sido jornalero, el lugar donde trabaja le queda a 25 minutos de su casa y para llegar lo hace caminando, en el trabajo se involucra sus hermanos para hacer mayor cantidad de siembras y para que su actividad sea mas rentable.

El préstamo lo necesita para comprar el fertilizante que ocupará en sus cultivos, pues ahora están más baratos, comprará machetes, pagará el alquiler de la tierra donde trabaja y también pagara mano de obra que limpia el terreno.

Su sueño es reforestar una fuente de agua que tiene su madre, en seguida tener su ganado vacuno y que haya producción para satisfacer las necesidades de su hogar, también pretende limpiar una parte del terreno que tienen para sembrar hortalizas.

These loans are smaller than the typical loans offered by this field partner, and guarantee requirements are also reduced. Individuals who receive this type of loan also get access to technical assistance, information on good environmental practices and increased access to farm inputs like fertilizer. This is considered a high risk loan due to the population and loan purpose, and CrediCampo is one of the very few institutions in El Salvador willing to working with these farmers.
