María Nelis
María is 41 years old and works as a teacher. She is married and her husband works for the national civil police. They have two daughters who are in school.

María works two shifts in her job as a teacher. She works with one set of students and then in the afternoons she works with a second set of students. María does not have to travel very far for work since it takes her about 20 minutes to get to her job from her house.

The loan she is requesting will be used to build a corridor in her house. The existing area has gotten damp due to the strong rains. María will also have a few windows installed so that her family can be better protected, as well as to satisfy this particular need.

María’s goal is to continue with the renovations to her house since her daughters continue to live there. For this reason, she wants to accomplish this goal with the support of CrediCampo.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
