Cadenitas de Oro will start its fifth loan cycle in Pro Mujer as part of Central Focal de Patacamaya. The group is comprised of eight members and is directed by a board of which Vania is the secretary. The businesses of the communal bank members are varied and among them are: the sale of food, beer, sheep, hats, sports clothes, drinks and candies.

The loan that they are asking for will benefit small micro-business that Vania is involved in as a member. This is Vania’s first year as a member of Pro Mujer, which she joined after a promoter of the institution went to visit her in her home. Now she has a business that sales beer and drinks. She learned this business from her sister because starting at a young age she helped her family and learned the ins and outs of business.

The loan that she is requesting now will be used to increase capital by purchasing beers and drinks at wholesale in the nearby communities and later sell them in her retail space. This form of work allows her to earn income to support her family as she already is married with two children.

When asked what she liked about Pro Mujer, Vania responded that she liked the training sessions that the institution offers.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
