She says that she makes a living by providing milling service (this serves to grind cooked corn to turn it into flour). She now has ten years of experience, and decided to do this work because the service didn't exist in her community. So far it's been quite profitable in terms of generating income and earnings.

She has now realized that this business is quite productive, so she has made the decision to form a group to start new businesses that help the families of the group members, with the intention of improving their finances. She will use the loan to buy corn and tools for maintenance.

Her dream is to buy another mill so it can generate more income for her and also improve the service to her customers.

Berlin es una señora casada de 29 años de edad, vive junto a su hija de ocho años de edad y su esposo en el Departamento de Suchitepequez. Ella se encuentra en la parte derecha, la ultima de la fotografía.
Ella comenta que se dedica al servicio de molino (sirve para moler el maíz cosido para convertirlo en masa). Ahora cuenta con diez años de experiencia, decidió obtar por esta labor ya que en su comunidad no había, hasta la fecha es bastante rentable en cuanto a la generación de ingresos y ganancias.
Ahora ella se ha dado cuenta que este negocio es bastante productivo, por lo que ha tomado la decisión de formar un grupo para emprender nuevos negocios que ayuden a las familias de los miembros de su grupo, con la intención de mejorar su economía. El préstamo lo utilizaran para la compra de maíz y utensilios de mantenimiento.
Su sueño es comprar otro molino para que le genere otro ingreso, como también mejorar el servicio a sus clientes.

About ADICLA

ADICLA (Association for the Holistic Development of the Basin of Lake Atitlán) is nonprofit rural community development association that provides small loans and services to improve quality of life in two of the poorest regions of Guatemala, home to large indigenous populations. Kiva funding will be used to support three innovative credit initiatives: youth business loans, green loans, and smaller loans to help ADICLA move down-market and serve poorer clients.

The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
